So, how is your spring going so far? We have seen quite a bit of rain. Everything is very green and the lawn is very tall. I do have daffodils in bloom and am patiently waiting for more flowers. I am also happy it is spring so I can take my basket photos outdoors where the lighting is so much better.
Before I get to my newest baskets, I wanted to tell you why I have not been updating this blog. Tomorrow is my mother-in-law’s birthday and she would have been 71. She passed away a month ago, on March 15. As you can imagine, it has been a difficult time. I wanted to do some writing about her on her birthday, but I have been struggling with the words. If I don’t post tomorrow, then perhaps I will be able to at a later date.
As for my baskets, I have two new color combinations for my Coffee Filter baskets. The first one I created in the colors of citrus fruits.

My next basket was inspired by the colors of the sea. I love the soothing blues and greens.

You can see more views of these baskets in my etsy shop. I hope you are enjoying your spring!
I kept looking at the two baskets I created in my last post and thinking, “The way I added new colors is a mess!” So I decided to end each color before adding a new one, instead of the usual way of joining the new color to the final part of the stitch of the previous row. Take a look:

What a difference! It does require just a bit more work, but the results are worth it. I can be a bit stubborn about changing my ways of doing things. But this time I am glad I decided to redo my work to make the result so much more professional.

So what is happening in my crochet studio? I’m glad you asked! I have started to experiment with more than two colors of satin cord. I am enjoying this exploration.
My first basket is in shades of silver and purple. I still have to weave in my cord ends, as well as embroider felt to the bottom, but I am very pleased with the result. Imagine how pretty this basket would be on your dresser!

Basket in silvers and purples
My next basket is still in the process of being crocheted. I started with navy blue and added silver, then royal blue. I like what I am seeing so far.

One of my next projects is to prepare a color card that contains all of the satin cord colors that I have. I would love to make you a custom colored basket to match your decor.
Have a beautiful weekend!
Yesterday I took photos of my latest crochet basket. For this basket, I used antique blue and mint green satin cord. The pattern I chose was the interlaced shells, which is a very elegant design. Crocheting shells is enjoyable and always makes a pretty statement.

The inspiration for my color choices came from the little girl’s couch in this La-Z-Boy ad. Oh, for a mother to be that nonchalant about spilled ice cream!

Have a wonderful day!
I saw an ad in the September issue of House Beautiful magazine for this rug:
I liked the use of brown and turquoise and used this inspiration for two new crochet designs. I used simple stripes this time and also created a bowl with a lid. A lid comes in handy for keeping items cleverly hidden.

My big news is that I plan to open my etsy shop to sell my bowls in the next couple of weeks. I will post an announcement here on my blog.
Let’s get some conversation going. Any questions, comments or suggestions? I’d love to read them. Have a wonderful day!
My latest crochet basket was inspired by one of my favorite Australian birds, the galah, or rose-breasted cockatoo. We had many of them visit us during our two years in Canberra. Our nickname for them was “Lovelies”. I really admired the gray and rose of their feathers. Such a beautiful bird!

I can picture this color combination in an entry hall for keys and sunglasses. Or how about a lady’s dressing table to contain those beauty supplies?
Hello, everyone! How about a glimpse of a larger crochet basket I created? The wavy stitch design is the same one that I used on the baskets in my previous post. This time the dimensions are 7″ x 3 1/2″.

Picture a lovely beach house, with this basket filled with shells or starfish on the coffee table. I can also see it in a bathroom, filled with hand towels or wash cloths. How do you envision using it in your own home?
Wishing everyone a beautiful Friday and a lovely weekend. I can feel fall in the air!
The first week of summer vacation and the temps have been in the 90′s. My kids are swimming for our community team and have practice every week day starting at 8 a.m. It is a little adjustment for us. Mainly it means that I cannot do any kind of creative activity until after 10:30. That is, if I am feeling motivated. I must admit that my mojo was nowhere in sight. I tried to fake it, but it was not until yesterday that I felt that spark again. One big problem: I had the hives Wednesday night. I am fairly sure it was caused by a tick bite. I had found one of those nasty things on my foot last week. It itched terribly. Wednesday night I was checking it and must have hit the “hives” button. It started with the palms of my hands itching. Then gradually it crept over my whole body. It was a terrible experience! I also felt very nauseated and thought I would faint. I practically coated myself in cortisone and finally fell asleep. What an ordeal! I looked up hives the next morning and found out that it is really nothing to worry about unless you have trouble breathing. But I thought I might need a trip to the ER. I was glad when I woke up and the itching was gone.
I have been working on new ideas for my crocheted baskets. I have been adding felt to the bottoms to protect them. I am also working on some embellishments. I went to our library this afternoon for some inspiration and hope to get some time this weekend to get creative. The kids do have a swim meet tomorrow morning. Other than that, the calendar is pretty open.
I hope everyone has a lovely weekend.
